Environmental Awareness

Our environment can be seen as the one aspect of our lives that simultaneously we ignore and has the biggest impact on our everyday activities. It is one of those topics that most people have an opinion about, but may not necessarily have all the facts about. This is unsurprising, as often geological and environmental scientists produce studies with conflicting information, or, as has been recently seen in the press, exaggerated claims and tampered study conclusions. Nonetheless, the potential impact of global warming upon the earth’s atmosphere and eventually our own lives is difficult to ignore.

There are little things that everyone can do in their daily lives to help counter global warming, while at the same time raising environmental awareness. Recycling of cans, paper and cardboard, as well as food waste, all help to cut down on how much waste we produce in our households. In addition, simple changes such as turning off a light when you exit the room, or turning off the tap when you brush your teeth, really do help to counteract the effects of global warming and help raise environmental awareness.

It is more important than ever to be seen to be environmentally aware: it is not just a fashionable phrase to be thrown around in the interests of favourability, but a necessary concern of modern living. It has been argued that the way most of us live our lives now is unsustainable, and that we cannot continue to live our lives in exactly the way we please. In order to live more ethically, with less waste of goods and therefore less economic necessity, it is important to become environmentally aware within our society.
